It's sometimes good to remind, like this Washington Post article does, that companies with large trademarks portfolios, which usually criticize anonymous registrations, are themselves massive users of services such as "Domains by Proxy".
The article also mentions the preventive practice which consists of registering names in which the trademark is used negatively (but does not mention its possible counter effect, which the "Verizon story" highlighted).
