After the EU Commission Regulation concerning the implementation of the .eu, which has a procedure to protect geographical and geopolitical names (articles 7 sqq), a bunch of French Senators propose to make French cities, districts, counties, etc. the only bodies able to register their names in the .fr domain.
If this law is enacted (usually, proposals made by Members of Parliament are not even discussed), they could register their names freely!
